Functional Bioinformatics Lab - Thinking on Paper

This 3rd Virtual Training Workshop on Bioinformatics is being organized by Asian Bioinformatics Research and Education Network (ABREN), a non-profit organization to promote research and education in this rapidly growing interdisciplinary field of science. This is an online training workshop with multimedia lectures being provided on demand through the Internet. This workshop covers various topics in Bioinformatics and the lectures are classified into basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Thus, the participants can go through the workshop lectures at their pace and convenience, and ask teachers questions and get answers any time during the workshop period. This workshop is now open for online registration. The registration is free but the number of participants may be restricted. The deadline for the online registration is February 28th, 2009.

Aim of the course and call for application
The main objectives of the course are to familiarize young scientists (Biologists/Computer Scientists/Mathematicians) with bioinformatics and genome data analysis skills and to encourage multi-disciplinarity by introducing:    

1. advanced fundamental algorithms in bioinformatics,
2. their application in genome analyses,
3. and recent knowledge acquired from genomes studies and perspectives.

The International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB) is the official conference of theAsia-Pacific Bioinformatics Network (APBioNet). Beginning in 2002, it has grown to become one of the largest bioinformatics conference in the Asia-Pacific region. This annual conference showcases the latest research and technologies in all areas of bioinformatics and is attended by practitioners from both biology and computing backgrounds in the Asia-Pacific region. This year, InCoB will be held back to back with the Workshop on Education in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (WEBCB), as well as theSingapore Symposium on Computational Biology (SYMBIO), a yearly event organized by the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) RSG Singapore.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of APBioNet, a network of people associated with the advancement of bioinformatics in the Asia-Pacific region for the past 11 years since its inception in 1998, is held within the InCoB conference annually. Key strategic initiatives to promote the bioinformatics revolution in our life science research and educational community are discussed at the AGM.

In keeping with the increasing quality of the conference, InCoB this year will continue to publish the best papers presented in the conference track in BMC Bioinformatics (Impact Factor 3.49) and also in Bioinformation, just as we have in the past three years.
